Magic jack would be ok if it didn't drop the internet for everyone else when you get a call. It's blatantly obvious that it's causing the problem because each time it rings, the internet drops out. When someone starts a call, it kills the internet in the house. Once the net comes back, it's slow for a while afterwards.If you don't use the internet while you talk, then this product is probably great for you, but if you want to use the net and talk at the same time, you're probably going to be disappointed.
Just installed MJ. Also, I've not mastered how to get my personal greeting to work with voicemail or how to select which voicemail message option to use. It does not give my personal greeting or my name all of which has been recorded. Both have great volume and sound quality. I may try the online chat/CS at MJ to see what they have to say. Those I called said that they could not tell it VOIP and better than most cell phones.I do wish that we had the option to turn on Name Caller ID for outbound. Tried it with a wireless Plantronics with headset and Creative HS-900 wired headset. For example, with MJ on or off or computer on or off the voicemail message simply says "The person at ***-***-**** is not available.
If we could customize that would be great. I'm using MJ for those days that I'm working from home and I need my clients to see that it's "me" calling and preferably see my company name on their caller ID. Not sure what is going on with that. Other than that I would recommend the MJ.
I installed the Magic Jack yesterday and immediately noticed the poor call quality. On the other end of the line is sounds like a beeping.Today I used the phone again and first it wasn't working without the computer being on. I have a 20MBps connection so it's not an issue of slow internet. The call makes a clicking sound about every 15 seconds. Then once it was actually working again it dropped my calls twice.Don't bother with this. You really ARE getting what you pay for here.
I cannot even access my VM. my neighbor has had his since they first came out and has experienced NO PROBLEMS at all. many of the same problems that others have listed are now happening to me. When I first got the magic jack and after using it for a bit I made the review below.
If it doesn't, it is the biggest pain in the rear and not worth the daily hassles.Simply awesome. My comp is old and slow and this works like a charm. Sure wish AMZN would allow to re-do the star ratings. The online chat is a joke.I have had 6 so far and these people are clueless. So, all Ican say is IF it works for you, you will love it and it is well worth the price and then some.but if you experience non stop problems, it is simply not worth the time to try to deal with these problems on a daily basis and the chat clowns at MJ are WORTHLESS.
What a GREAT and awesome product, IF IT WOULD ONLY WORK ALL OF THE TIME. 90% of the time if you call my # it is just dead.people get nothing.not even able to leave me a VM. They have me do 25 different things, nothing works, they then have to get a higher level tech in the chat and same thing.they keep having me do this that and everything else, and it will enable to MJ to work briefly, but then the problems come right back.I have had to update this 5 times a day, have them refresh it.make a zillion changes on my comp, reformat the MJ several times a day, wiping out contacts and etc.Every chat, I get clueless idiots who keep asking me the same question and I keep replying "why are you asking me the same question 6 times when I answered it the first 5 times".I literally spent 12 hours.Yes, that is right, 12 hours today on their chat.they keep cutting me off before we are done and the next chat they have to read the previous chat and then make me do more and more stuff to try and fix this thing.EVERYTIME they tell me that if I just do what they tell me they PROMISE it will solve my problems.Well, I have done just about everything known to mankind that they told me to do and they were wrong EVERYTIME as their 'fixes' did not work or only worked briefly.I guess if you have MJ that is not giving any problems then it is a great deal/service as when it does work it is very good with a lot of features.but if you have a MJ that does not work 80% of the time and you have to kill HOURS EVERYDAY trying to fix it, it really is worthless.I mean even if it were free, it is not worth the time trying to get it to work everyday.and the idiots at MJ told me "If I cant see the advantages to MJ then they cat help me".WHAT ADVANTAGES. Why.
Original review is below. I saved all my chat transcripts but wont post them here. But they are a joke.I suggest buying a MJ at a retail store so that if you do have problems it is much easier to return it and get a refund, rather then having to deal with the MJ clowns. I think the bulk of negative reviews are from the phone companies who realize that as more and more people try the magic jack, the more likely they are going to lose customers.I wont go in to alot of detail except to say that this does everything it claims and more.I was really surprised at how many features this thing has and how advanced the User Interface is.Really an awesome product. How is it an ADVANTAGE when people cannot call you, you cannot call them, they cannot leave VM's and even if they can, I cant access them 90% of the time.this is a major DISADVANTAGE. The sound quality is perfect.nobody can even tell I am not on a 'regular phone'. Since then, I have been experiencing a nightmare.
The price cant be beat and the features are amazing and ones you cant get with a landline from the phone company, vonage, skype and etc.I would be very worried if I were a phone company. Are they NUTS. I really loved this when it was working, but I cant handle these non stop hassles everyday.so, I will be returning it to Best Buy where I purchased it. Installed in 2 minutes and is far better then a landline. As they said on 60 minutes "The magic Jack is a true PHONE COMPANY KILLER", and they were 100% right.
The first day it worked fine then after that I could hear people on the phone but they couldn't hear me they said I sounded distant and ended up hanging up. Glad I did a 30 day free trial on this. I had vonage with my Verizon Fios which I am very happy with but thought to try this to reduce my monthly bills. So I unplugged Magicjack and plugged back in vonage and return the call with no problems. Went on their site to get a RMA # to return it and of course the return site was down and technical support said "sorry to hear that, try again some other time."
